When it comes to white sand, crystal clear waters and great food, Boracay is still a good place to be.

This post is a little over due, but i will share it anyway. Why not?

Late March 2017, the family went to this tropical island. We had a long road trip. We left Bacolod City at 4:30 AM in our humble Chevy Spark, crossing the sea to Dumangas, Iloilo via RoRo ferry. FYI, it's a ferry, that has a big space for vehicles to "roll in and roll off", transporting land vehicles and its passengers to the next province or island.

We  rolled off in Dumangas at 6:30AM, which marked the start of a longer road trip to Caticlan, Malay. Thankfull, my husband, who is a very good driver, got us all safely in Caticlan in 5 hours. Then he left the car near the port at a car park that charges on a per day basis before we all boarded a pump boat to Boracay.

We stayed in that island over the weekend--2 nights in Crown Regency Resort and Convention Center. Our experience in the hotel was great, overall. Read my review here.

going to the beach

The beach is still as beautiful as it was when we were there 5 years ago. Yes, it was my third time to be in Boracay. The first was a 3-day vacation in 2012 with only my husband, then we took the kids there later the same year and lived there for 9 months. Life in the island was simple and wonderful. If you stay there long enough, you will be surprised that not everything is expensive.

Within those last 2 days, I was also able to pay my friend a short visit at Shambala Residences. I will write about that later in another post.

Moving on, the kids enjoyed swimming at the beach on Sunday and we ate great food at a number of great restaurants. Unfortunately, our stay was brief that we were not able to book any island activities. However, the point of that trip was  to get away from the city for the weekend to a place that has a beautiful beach.

Moreover, the timing of the trip was not quite right as it was "sea weed season." So the fine sand was tainted by bright green sea weeds at the shore. Thank goodness there were some parts of the shore that were clear of those greens. Nevertheless, the water was crystal clear as it always has been. The greenies will be there for a few months but not the whole year.

I never got the chance to witness sunset. Sunsets are beautiful in Boracay. That is because I already have a two-year old boy who needs nap time through the afternoon. So at sunset, we were still in the hotel. 5 years ago I often went to the white beach to watch the sun go down. I guess I have seen so many sunsets and that seemed enough for now.

A lot has changed since the last time we were there. So many franchises and commercial establishments have risen. Now, there is City Mall, Jollibee, Tom N Toms, big new hotels like Azalea, Chow King...to name a few. It felt like that small, once a simple island with a very lively night life has transformed into a city. I cannot say anything negative, we did not stay there long enough to see if the changes were a good or a bad thing. Needless to say Boracay island is still beautiful and for me I wish we had stayed longer.

However, if we were to have another escape from our hometown's hustle and bustle we would rather go to Dumaguete, Bohol or Palawan instead. Next time...

Anyways, I would still go back there given another chance. Leaving the island Monday morning left me and my daughter feeling a little sad. We traveled the same road toward Dumangas from where we again rolled  our car into a Bacolod-bound ferry boat.

P.S. when you see this bridge you are somewhere halfway ...(I mean either going to Caticlan or back to Dumangas). And if you ask what this bridge is for...well...erm, I don't have any idea. It was a weird looking structure. :)

The family spent the weekend in Boracay and we indeed made a great choice when we booked a hotel room in Crown Regency Resort and Convention Center for two nights.

We encountered no hassle when we checked in. Our two key cards were handed to us in less than 15 minutes--after the receptionist checked our IDs. We were given a room in the third floor that has a nice view of their gigantic swimming pool.

Our hotel room had two queen-sized beds; the three kids comfortably shared one bed and my husband and I shared the other. There was also a cable TV and ref, sink and water heater in an area that served as a small pantry.

Moving on, the bathroom was spacious and great: complete with shower, bathtub, toilet and sink and, of course, a pair each of complimentary bath gel, shampoo, bath soaps, toothbrushes and tiny tubes of toothpaste. I almost forgot that there were 2 boxes with 3 cotton swabs in each and a hair dryer with a cradle mounted on the wall.

Seeing the bath tub, I was glad I brought my DIY Bath Soak. I had a feeling that I should bring a small bottle of the lavender scented bath salts.

Moving on, the facility we liked the most was the gigantic swimming pool, which had machine-operated waves that turned on/off at a certain schedule. The kids frolicked in the pool the entire afternoon of our second day. They even have a slide that went all the way down from the third floor of the hotel. It was safe for both children and adults. I, myself, went down the slide a couple of times. 

They also have an oceanarium that housed some species of big fishes, a sea turtle and little sharks among others. The hotel also has a casino, a bar and restaurant (but we did not go in those two places) and a 24-hour convenient store.

Overall, Crown Regency Resort and Convention Center has a pleasing atmosphere with clean hotel room amenities and facilities. I also have to comment their staff for their amazing hospitality.

On the other hand, this would not be a real review if I did not honestly point out a few things. First off, the small refrigerator was empty. Other hotels that we have been to have some drinks and chocolates in their mini refrigerators.Why didn't they have anything in it at that time? 

Next, the air conditioner was functioning but it looked like it already needed to be replaced. It was not strong enough to make the room cold unless you shut the curtains to block the sun. However, don't worry we were not sweating. Still, I have to mention it.

Also, I think the bathroom needs an update. The sealant around the sides of the bathtub were cracking and the openings had a slight funny smell. Another thing, for some reason the hair dryer would work continuously for only about 1 minute. After that, you have to give it some time to rest before it works again. Not much of a big deal but I hope they do something about this.

Lastly, one disappointing thing with housekeeping. On our second day, we requested for them to clean our room. No one came. Personally, I did not mind but some guests would surely complain.

Needless to say, we enjoyed our stay in Crown Regency Resort and Convention Center. I would recommend it to my friends and relatives and given the chance, we will gladly come back.

Alright, why book ahead when the trip is weeks away? Actually, we should have made reservations earlier. Don’t be surprised but many people still don’t know that you can save a lot of money buy booking your hotel accommodation or flights earlier.

Crown Regency Resort and Convention Center Boracay is a 4-star hotel with room rates that range from roughly P7,000 or $140 (Deluxe) to P11,000 or higher $220+ (suite) a night. Expect to pay more after taxes and fees and when you are come with extra heads.

Guess what? After some research, we got a room that can accommodate 2 adults and 3 kids for flat rate, no strings attached P3,999 a night. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

How do you secure a good deal for your hotel accommodation in an island, where prices for almost everything seems to be over the roof? Here are four tips on finding a Great Hotel Deal in Boracay (bonus: the tips apply to any destination, not just Boracay):

Don't expect to get a discount or a special deal as you walk right in to a hotel. There are so many great deals that can be found online that will help you save money on your hotel accommodation. 

No credit card? No problem. Gone are the days when online bookings can only be done with a credit card. Most online travel merchants accept other forms of payment such as Paypal, Debit Card or Dragon Pay. Some even have arrangements for over-the-counter payments with accredited banks. 

Moreover, you can make reservations at the comfort of your home. 

Now that we have established the it is better to book hotels online, the next thing to do is compare deals. Do not just settle with one online booking website. One online merchant may offer lower prices than the other, and also compare notes. There may be other hidden charges or conditions that one site has and the other does not. 

Try Trivago because you get to compare prices among sites like Expedia, Hotels.com, Booking.com and etc on the same page. 

Notice the difference in prices, they may not be much in the example shown, but soon you will see that a little savings will eventually be worth it.

I am not blogging for Metrodeal, to tell you the truth. I am simply sharing my personal experience and how I was able to book reservations with Crown Regency Resort and Convention Center Boracay for only P3999.

I know what you are thinking 47% off the price looks too good to be true, but go ahead and click on that deal. Read the description, check the terms and conditions then send the hotel manager or who ever is in charge an email and you will realized that it is for real.

Once all is settle, always keep copies of your confirmation receipt, email, vouchers or codes, and etc. Keep those copies electronically and have them printed out just to be safe. Then, put those copies in an envelop and slip it in your travel bag along with your personal IDs, cards and cash the day before the trip.
